Privacy Policy
PagePress collects nothing.
Last updated 2026-08-17
Summary
PagePress is a screenshot tool. It runs entirely inside your browser, on the page you are currently viewing, and only when you click the toolbar icon or press the keyboard shortcut. It does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any browsing data, page content, or personal information. There are no analytics, no telemetry, and no network requests of any kind — the extension has no server to talk to.
What stays on your device
Everything. A capture is assembled from the page's pixels entirely in local browser memory, converted to PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF, and either downloaded to your computer or copied to your clipboard. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. Uninstalling the extension removes all of it.
What is stored locally
PagePress uses Chrome's storage API to remember your last-used
output format and quality setting, on your device only, via your browser's
own sync mechanism if you have Chrome sync enabled. This is preference data,
not usage data, and PagePress itself never reads or reports it elsewhere.
Permissions, and why each is needed
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| activeTab | Access the current tab's content, and only after you click the icon or use the keyboard shortcut — never in the background and never on tabs you haven't interacted with. |
| scripting | Inject the helper that measures, scrolls, and restores the page during a capture. |
| downloads | Save the finished image or PDF to your downloads folder. |
| storage | Remember your preferred format and quality between captures. |
| offscreen | Host the hidden canvas that stitches captured tiles into one image. |
| clipboardWrite | Support the Copy button, which places the capture on your system clipboard. |
optional host permission (*://*/*) | Requested at
runtime, never at install, and only when you explicitly ask to capture a
page whose content is embedded in a cross-origin frame (some documentation
viewers, embedded dashboards). Chrome shows its own permission prompt
before anything is granted, and you can revoke it any time from
chrome://extensions. |
The install itself requests no host permissions. PagePress cannot read or act on any page until you invoke it.
